Microsoft ExpressRoute

Microsoft ExpressRoute is a specialized technology that lets you integrate hybrid networks that include on-premises or co-located data centers with data and applications deployed in the Microsoft Azure public-cloud infrastructure. The ability to establish this private connection is critical if you want to deploy workloads to Azure, while also retaining your existing data-center infrastructures that are not housed within Azure. ExpressRoute connections are not transmitted via the public internet, and offer more reliability, faster speeds, lower latencies, and higher security than typical connections over the internet.

If you run applications or need to access data in Microsoft Azure, it is critical that you have a reliable and secure connection to Microsoft’s public cloud. ExpressRoute essentially establishes a VPN between your office and the Azure data center that is far more secure and reliable than using the public Internet.
